There’s a cool new item in the Ken Kaniel online store. It’s movie production rights to my horror comic Fouke. Simply click the button, I’ll transfer rights (probably using legalzoom or some shit), then YOU make the movie, sell it to Netflix, and listen to teenagers explain how your work compares to The Babadook.Read More
I’ve zeroed in on horror comics this past year. There’s more coming. Horror comics are cool because I’ve never been a superhero guy. They’re not interesting. I can’t control my interests.
But one day I’ll try to make a superhero comic.Read More
How do you feel about your art? I’m not asking in general. In this exact moment how do you feel about it?
Can you remember any time this past week when you felt it was a lot better or a lot worse?Read More
I'm running a Gleam contest with 4 horror comics YOU SHOULD READ. Hey ... why's Fouke in there, Ken? Cause you should read it! If you don't know what Gleam is it's the box below. You can enter multiple times by different actions in the bottom half of the box. Go ahead, fill that box up with your eager entries! If you win I'll ship you the comics, for free :DRead More
My horror comic Fouke got released on Comixology this week. I've noticed now the cover pops up along side more mainstream titles (Batgirl, Cable, etc.) within the Comixology display ads I get served across various websites. I didn't know Amazon could dynamically customize the content of ads based on cookies. They can do this, yet twice I've gone to Whole Foods in the evening for dinner and the hot food section had ONLY breakfast items. Try dynamically serving fish or chicken instead of pancakes when it's 8:30PM, Amazon.Read More
If you show art on the internet other artists will message you about teaming up for projects. A smart person will give the project their best consideration before agreeing to anything. A really smart person will excitedly say yes while barely paying attention to the message.Read More
Making something meaningful has two phases. First you shape it into being. Then you sell it into better groceries and a new house. A honest, profitable sale isn’t the only signal that your work has impact beyond its parts, but it’s a strong signal. For sure.Read More
I don’t worry a bunch about competition. Wallace Wattles, author of The Science of Getting Rich, agrees that’s the best mindset to have. The idea sounds negligent at first if you really want to win. But walk around for a year with it and you’ll think, feel, and see the benefits.Read More
How will I deal with charity once I have more money than I can spend? Sacrifices should be smart. Before I figure it out here’s a list of times I’ve given a big hard no to the wretched.Read More
Playing Youtube rap videos as background music while working from home is a terrible idea. The mind wanders, from the task at hand, to the video girls ... and a new, bigger, task at hand. Stuck alone at work you may come to a depressing realization - you don’t have a shot in hell at ever having sex with a woman like Nicki Minaj. (I know you’re not a video girl, Nicki.)Read More
I do a lot of window shopping. Most of it is done when I’m trying to think of creative ideas. Or, lately, when I’m thinking over the decision to never make another webcomic again (at least for the time being). I’ll get more into why someone would never make another webcomic again (at least for the time being) in a different blog.Read More
